Genealogy at a Glance Minimize

Overview:  Genealogy is the study of family lineage.  Genealogy research is typically conducted through interviews and research of documentation such as birth, death, and marriage records and many other official and non-official sources.    Understanding your genealogy leads to a deeper understanding of your family history, how you ended up where you are today, and how you became you.  Most people feel a great sense of satisfaction understanding this information, resulting in an extremely popular hobby.

Approx. costs:   Some research can be performed free of charge.  Pay services can be purchased to significantly assist in your research by providing easy access to database records.

Difficulty for beginners:  Easy/medium (some research of previous generations may be more challenging)

Approx. time to complete project:  You will never complete the study, but the more you learn, the more time you will want to spend

Variations:  Research manually, conduct internet research, use a pay internet service,  join a family portal to collaborate with relatives
