How to Get Started Minimize

Before you step into the fun realm of RCs, you need to make some decisions:

  • First, you need to decide if you want to try cars, trucks, airplanes, boats or something else.
  • If the vehicle is a car or truck, how are you going to use it?  Are you looking for off-road capabilities?  Or are you looking for a flashy vehicle to race?
  • Once you understand the type of vehicle you are looking for, then you need to decide if you want to go gas or electric.  Gas vehicles are faster and more fun, but also more expensive.  If you are going to just try out the hobby, you might want to try out electric.
  • The last major thing you need to decide is if you want a Ready To Run vehicle or if you want to build it yourself.   Building a kit can be very fun and you can learn

You may also want to find a good local RC event to check out the competition and get some ideas on what area of RC you might be interested in.    Once you have these decisions made, you need to purchase your vehicle.  The online deals are very good, especially the kits.

If you are going to try RC planes or helicopters, you may want to try a simulator or get an instructor.  Parts due to crashes can be very expensive.
